Weekly News: Week 33

It's hard to believe that Week 33 of the school year has ended! Where has the time gone?

On Monday, students took the 6th Grade Math Placement test. It can be a very stressful day for our fifth graders but they all tried their absolute best and I was very proud of their dedication. Information regarding the Placement test timeline can be found HERE.

In Writer's Workshop we began our last writing unit... Memoirs. It's a wonderful way to end 5th grade and their elementary school careers by thinking about themselves and what makes them unique.

I've really been enjoying the conversations we've been having as we dive deeper into our Memoir Unit. Check out your student's Google Classroom account to see more of what they've been writing.

We are nearing the end of our Revolutionary War unit in Social Studies. We've looked at the battles, studied the roles that women played in the cause, and studied a few of the major battles. Without France's help we might still be with Great Britain! The Unit 6 Social Studies test will be on Tuesday, May 9th.

Next week Mohr School will be raising money for the Wheelchair Foundation. More information will be posted next week.

One last thing... today's Friday Folder includes a permission slip for 5th grade's Human Growth Unit. Please read the letter carefully and return it by Tuesday, May 23rd. The Unit will be taught on Thursday, May 25th and Friday, May 26th. The Parent Preview will be on Monday, May 22nd.

Weekly News: Week 14

It was so great seeing all of you for conferences! It was a busy week, filled with minimum days, but it was nice to be able to sit and chat with all of you about the first trimester and your student's progress. We are already a third of the way through the school year!

We started Module 3 for math and are learning all about adding and subtracting fractions. It is a much smaller module than the last, so we will be taking our first test on December 2nd.

Next week is Thanksgiving Break! Enjoy the week off! We will return to school on Monday, November 28th.

When we return we will be starting our informational reading and writing units. Students will get a chance to research a topic they are interested in and become an expert! Informational writing is a great way to show what you know.

Upcoming Events:

  • Monday 11/21-Friday 11/25
    • Thanksgiving Break
  • Monday 11/28
    • Return to school
  • Friday 12/2

Weekly News: Week 3

I can't believe it's already September! These three weeks have really flown by. Students have started seeing Ms. Britto for science, and all our subject areas are up and running.  On Wednesday we had our first "Pay Day"... learning how to deposit our paychecks, earn bonuses, and pay fines!

Don't forget, Monday is Labor Day... I hope you all have a fun and relaxing three day weekend!

A few things to remember for next week:

  • Tuesday-- Safety Valets!
    • The new schedule is out and our class is scheduled for this week. Students received their new schedule today and should be at school on time for their shift. A few students are thinking about joining in, as well, to help make sure our MWF mornings are covered. Thank you to all of you who volunteered!
  • Tuesday-- Kindness Ambassador applications due
    • Ms. Britto had an informational meeting this past Wednesday. All interested students should have their forms with them on Tuesday so they may be considered.
  • Wednesday-- Mid Module 1 Math test.
    • Students received the study guide today, as well as a sheet with sample problems to work from. We will be reviewing for the test on Tuesday. All our math tests this year will be taken on the computer, to better prepare them for the state testing in May. Students should study this weekend for the test, which covers lessons 1-8. Don't forget there are videos for each of the lessons, found HERE. And I've also linked up our Study Guide, so you can see the types of questions your students should study, HERE. We will go over all the correct answers on Tuesday.
  • Thursday-- Picture Day!
    • If you have not already ordered your pictures for this school year, go to mylifetouch.com and use the school code BY416636Q0 to order online. We will be taking individual student pictures as well as a class photo.

Mid Module 1 Test

This upcoming Monday, September 21st is our first math test. The students will be taking the Mid Module 1 test.

Today they received a study guide to help them become familiar with what is on the test, as well as an Interactive Study Guide that they will do for homework. This features questions similar to the test and will help the students test their knowledge.

Here's the study guide we wrote in our math spirals.
