Weekly News: Week 18

2016 has flown by! It's hard to believe we've been in school 5 months already! In this last week we learned some math behind The 12 Days of Christmas, we finished our Feature Articles, we made ornaments and celebrated our Holiday Party by decorating cookies and eating pizza. It's been a great end to 2016.

Have a wonderful winter break, enjoy the holidays, and a Happy New Year! See everyone again on January 9th!

Weekly News: Week 17

Wow! Only a few more days until Winter Break! 2016 has really flown by.

We've been reading the historical novel, Blood on the River, which is the story of the Jamestown Colony and their interactions with the Powhatan Empire. Learning about Captain John Smith and the rest of the English colonists has really shown us how important their relationships with the Native Americans were.

We also have been creating some different holiday art pieces. So far we've made Santa Stamps and Nutcrackers. The holidays are a great time to get creative. Check out our Twitter page to see some of the art pieces.

The biggest thing we've been working on is our Feature Articles. Each student picked a topic that they wanted to become an expert on. They've researched, and are now writing their articles to teach us all about their topics. These articles are due on Thursday, December 22nd, right before we leave for break.  Past examples of Feature Articles can be found HERE.

Mohr Traffic Protocols

Please take a look at the Traffic Protocols for our school. Help make the pick-up and drop-off area a safe area for all our students.

Mohr PTA's Newsletter - August 17, 2016

New Mohr Traffic Protocols

Dear Mohr Community,
We have been working with the City of Pleasanton and Pleasanton Police Department to improve the flow of traffic at Mohr Elementary School.  The City has suggested some changes that should help create a safer environment for students and their families.
DROP OFF / PICK UP LINE
Please enter the drop-off/pick-up lane near Guzman Parkway.  A white line separating the cars waiting to enter the drop-off/pick-up lane from the regular street traffic has been added.  Students may unload/load in the coned areas only (in front of the Kindergarten playground) as we have staff supervision and traffic valet helpers to assist.  We ask that students wait to be picked up in the front and wait for parents in this designated area only.
When driving, please be sure to keep the space clear before the crosswalk and that there is no drop off or pick up taking place in this area.  The City has painted new “Keep Clear” signage near the crosswalk.  This will help ensure pedestrians are visible in the crosswalk.
Please do not make a U-turn on Dennis Drive from the drop-off/pick-up lane.  It is very dangerous and police officers may cite you.
SCHOOL PARKING LOT CLOSED DURING DROP OFF/ PICK UP
The Pleasanton Police also suggested that since our school parking lot is so constricted, we close the lot during drop-off and pick-up times.  Those with handicapped placards will still be allowed to enter.  This should also help reduce congestion during those peak times.
Thank you for your support and keeping the students at Mohr safe!
Sincerely,
Julie Berglin
Principal, Mohr Elementary
